let's talk turkey
November 23 was the day for another wildly successful Turkey Tuesday in Arizona. In what has become the nation’s largest one-day turkey drive, Bashas’, Food City, and KTAR partnered with 12 News to bring in over 20,000 turkeys, along with canned foods and monetary donations, for hungry families in time for Thanksgiving.
nobody does it better
Now in its 17th year, Turkey Tuesday has become a Valley tradition. Each year sponsors push themselves to break their own records and feed more people than ever before, with donation sites set up at all Bashas’ and Food City locations.

To the best of our knowledge, Turkey Tuesday is the largest one-day Turkey drive in the United States.
challenge stores
In addition to the all-day drive, each year two stores square off in the “Turkey Challenge” to see who can bring in the most turkeys in a three hour time frame. The two stores going head-to-head in 2010 were Bashas’ at 4940 S. Gilbert Road in Chandler, and Food City at 845 W Southern Avenue in Phoenix. 12 News Sports Anchor, Bruce Cooper, headed the Bashas’ team and brought in a respectable 1810 birds. Food City, however, lead by 12 News Weather Anchor, James Quinones, brought in 2648 in just three hours to secure victory in 2010’s Turkey Challenge.
